[ An Exciting New Chapter ]

This Sunday saw us begin an exciting new chapter in the life of Redeemer Church. We moved from being just one congregation to being two as we launched our second site in Tavistock. It seems like it has been a long time coming, but in reality it has been just three short years since God first spoke to us about planting four other churches – Tavistock, Saltash, Callington and Ivybridge – beyond what we have in Plymouth. As I got some time to reflect on the weekend I found myself full of gratitude.

Grateful for our friendships and partnerships within Advance (www.advancemovement.com). It is a real joy and great encouragement to be part of a global family of churches committed to seeing churches planted and strengthened. To know that on Saturday sixty elders and their wives from across Johannesburg (SA) were praying for us was amazing. To receive message after message on Sunday from leader after leader, in the UK and beyond, saying that they were thinking and praying for us was so encouraging and we are so grateful.

Grateful for team. God has blessed us as a church with an incredible team of men and women who work so hard in loving, leading, serving and caring for the church. There was an enormous amount of work done in preparation for Sunday as well as on the day itself by so many. I am so grateful for the number of people who served both sites on Sunday – guys like Ben Mumford, Andy and Sue Wooldridge and Steve and Sarah Payne – it made such a difference. Gloriously, with multiplied meetings comes multiplied opportunities to serve. There is a huge need to add to and strengthen all the teams serving in both sites over the coming months and so we are praying for more people to step up and play their part in all that God has set before us.

Grateful to God for his grace upon us as a church. The apostle Paul writes in (1 Corinthians 3:7MSG) “It’s not the one who plants or the one who waters who is at the centre of this process but God, who makes things grow.” On Sunday we saw 215 people gather across both sites, 161 people in Plymouth and 54 in Tavistock. This is one of our highest Sunday’s in terms of attendance and it would be so easy to either try and take some credit for it or worry about maintaining it. But Paul so wonderfully reminds us that it is “God who makes things grow”. This is just the beginning and there is still much to do in the days, months and years ahead, but we are so grateful to God for his determination and commitment to building his church in Plymouth, Tavistock and beyond, and we declare, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power.”
